What we see. What we feel. What stays.
Every name has a story. Ours began with a word.
Matiz.
A word associated with shades, nuances and the little differences that give colour
its character.
We liked the idea of shades. But the more we thought about it, the more we
realised that shades aren’t just about colours. They are a part of life, too.
Think about it. We all have different sides to us. The happiness we share, the
memories we hold close, the people who leave a mark on us, and the little things
that mean more than we can explain.
Some moments are loud and full of colour. Others are quiet and simple. Some
make us laugh. Some bring a tear to our eyes. And some become special only
when we look back.
These are the many shades of being human.
And somewhere along the way, we began to wonder: how much of what we see in
life do we actually get to keep?
We see so much. But what stays?
Imagine a child sitting at the dining table, painting for the very first time.
There are colours everywhere. A little paint on the fingers, a few uneven lines on
the paper, perhaps a sun that is bigger than the house beside it. And somewhere in
the middle of all that beautiful mess, the child looks up and says, “Look what I
made!”
A parent smiles, admires the little masterpiece, and perhaps pins it to the
refrigerator.
Days turn into months. More drawings follow. Life gets busy, and the little
painting slowly becomes just another thing from the past.
Until one day, years later, it turns up in an old box
The child is taller now. The handwriting has changed. Those tiny fingers have
grown. But looking at that little painting, the parent is suddenly back at that dining
table, watching a small pair of hands discover the world, one colour at a time.
And for a moment, time doesn’t feel so far away.
Because it was never just a painting.
It was a little piece of a life that will never happen quite the same way again.
And perhaps that is what makes certain things so precious. Not how they look, or
how perfectly they are made, but everything they quietly hold within them.
When a feeling finds its form
We all have something like that.
A photograph tucked away in a drawer. A portrait of someone we love. A memory
of a day we wish we could return to, even just for a little while.
We cannot ask time to slow down. We cannot keep people exactly as they are, or
return to every moment that made us who we are.
But sometimes, we can give those moments a place in our lives.
A child’s first painting, thoughtfully transformed into a work of art. A portrait that
captures more than a face. An artwork that brings a story, a feeling or a piece of
someone we love into the spaces we call home.
Something that began as a fleeting moment becomes something we can live with,
look at, and return to.
And every time we do, it gives a little of that moment back to us.
Perhaps that is what art can do at its most meaningful. It gives our memories a
form, our feelings a place, and the things we hold dear a way to stay close.
The thought behind House of Matiz
This is what inspired us to create House of Matiz.
Through original commissioned artworks, we bring personal stories to life. We
turn children’s first paintings into keepsakes families can treasure. And through our
art gatherings, we create spaces where people can slow down, get creative and
make memories together.
For us, art isn’t just about colours, shapes or frames. It’s about understanding why a
moment matters and finding a way to preserve it.
Perhaps we cannot stop time or bring every moment back. But we can choose to
hold on to the things that matter.
We don’t sell art. We hold on to moments.
We preserve emotion and hand it back to you, beautifully kept.
House of Matiz.
What remains after seeing is what stays with us.
